Manchester City could move within two points of Arsenal on Saturday night, but manager Josep Guardiola says there is “no reason not to be concerned” about the title race with so many games remaining.
Manager Josep Guardiola is not getting carried away despite Arsenal’s recent poor form, insisting he “cannot be concerned” about Manchester City’s position in the title race.
Arsenal started with a four-point lead over Guardiola’s side, but missed a chance to widen their lead by failing to overcome Wolves, who are bottom of the Premier League. That means if City win against Newcastle on Saturday night, they could move within two points of the Gunners.
But Guardiola insists he is not paying attention to the Premier League table at this stage, pointing out that there are still 12 games left.
“As I said before, 12 (more) games is too many, so Newcastle is the only concern,” Guardiola said on Friday.

“We will be worried about that as we get closer to the League Cup final against Arsenal, but for now it’s Newcastle, a break and then Leeds, it’s always been that way.
“As a journalist, I understand that you want to predict what’s going to happen. That’s not important. This is Newcastle, that’s all.”
Asked if he had discussed Arsenal’s drop in points against Wolves on Wednesday night, City manager replied: “We didn’t talk about it for one second. It’s just Newcastle, Newcastle, Newcastle.”

“We didn’t talk about rankings, standings, anything like that. It didn’t bother us. There are (still) 12 games.
“If you ask me this question with two or three games left, I’ll answer it. 12 games left, that’s forever.”
With Arsenal dropping points in back-to-back games against Brentford and Wolves, and Manchester City improving in the final stages of the season, some argue that the former champions have an advantage in the title race.
But Guardiola was quick to rubbish any talk of an advantage, pointing out that some of City’s stars are new and have never won a title before.
“Seventy percent of the players are new, so they don’t get to experience situations like this.
“Experience means winning tomorrow. Only once.”
