Leicester City are appealing their six-point deduction in the Championship, but the Premier League wants further punishment for breaching financial regulations.
Both the Premier League and Leicester have launched appeals regarding the Foxes, with the club seeking to overturn the six-point penalty imposed.
Leicester were given points deductions last month after being accused of breaching the EFL’s profit and sustainability regulations during the 2023-24 season when they won promotion. The Foxes have appealed the ruling, arguing that it is excessive, The Telegraph reported.
The Midlands side were allowed an ‘allowable loss’ of £83m over the three years leading up to last season, but ended up exceeding that figure by almost £21m. Leicester won the Championship title ahead of Ipswich when Enzo Maresca was manager.
They were unable to maintain their Premier League status, which would have brought them even more wealth, but they were relegated to the second tier.

The Premier League has appealed the committee’s decision to suspend Leicester despite his late declaration. 1 point deduction is announced.
A Top League statement said: “We have filed an independent appeal limited to the committee’s decision not to impose sanctions on the club for breaching the league’s regulations regarding late submission of annual accounts.”
Leicester are already in the thick of a relegation battle in the Championship this season, facing the possibility of successive falls from the pyramid. Due to the points deduction, they are currently 22nd in the league, with a winless run of seven games in all competitions. At this rate, there are only two points left to safety.
Without the deductions they would still sit in a precarious 19th place, above the relegation zone, but with the additional deductions they would drop to 23rd place, below Oxford, and face a big task in the final months of the season.
Leicester on Wednesday appointed Gary Rowett as manager until the end of the season, while the club chairman admitted they are “in a fight for survival” in the Championship. The club sacked Marti Cifuentes in January, just a few months after taking over.
In an earlier legal battle, the Premier League had argued that Leicester should be given a 12-point deduction or a £20m fine, but the committee ruled that the club’s improving financial position was a mitigating factor.
The league is currently appealing, arguing that an additional point penalty should be imposed in addition to the six points already deducted, but Leicester believes that they should only be fined and not receive any sports sanctions.
