Jurgen Klopp has been targeted by both Manchester United and Chelsea to become manager after leaving Liverpool, the former Anfield manager’s agent has revealed.
Jurgen Klopp has rejected an approach from Manchester United to become England manager after Gareth Southgate retires, his agent has said. In the summer of 2024, Klopp stepped down as Liverpool manager after nine years at the helm and took a break from management.
The German has since become global head of football for the Red Bull Group, and his long-time agent Marc Kosicke has revealed his client has no interest in returning to management, despite interest from United and Chelsea. Asked about the 58-year-old’s return to the dugout, Kosicke said: “At the moment I don’t think that will happen because he is very happy in his new role and in this environment.”
“Maybe one day he wants to smell the dressing room again, but for now he’s very, very happy with his role. Before joining Red Bull, Jurgen could have coached the American national team or the England national team, and maybe Germany too, if Julian Nagelsmann wasn’t already there.
“There were also inquiries from Chelsea and Manchester United, but Jurgen had made it clear that he would not coach any other English club. These inquiries did not stop. Jurgen underwent a transformation, moving away from being a big-picture coach and taking on more managerial responsibilities.”

Kosicke claims Chelsea made the inquiry, but the Stamford Bridge club deny this. In an interview with Transfermarkt, Kosicke also claimed that Bayern Munich approached the German a few months ago after leading Liverpool to the Premier League title.
“Bayern came close to signing us twice,” he said. “Once in 2008, Uli Hoeness wanted Jurgen Klopp, while Karl-Heinz Rummenigge wanted Jurgen Klinsmann.
“Then after Niko Kovac[sackedinNovember2019]when Jurgen was at Liverpool, they approached us again. “No one expected things to go so well with[eventual Bayern manager]Hansi Flick. There just wasn’t the right momentum.”
Klopp reiterated in his press conference last month that he had no intention of returning to management despite his links with Real Madrid. “I don’t think I’ll change my mind, but I don’t know,” he said.
“We’re building a house right now, and my daughter wanted a really big trophy room. We had another small room, so I said, ‘We know how many trophies we have, that’s enough. We’re not adding more.'”
“I know it sounds arrogant, but I know I can coach a football team, but I don’t have to do it until my last day.”
