Howe not ready to ‘make excuses’ after Man City’s ‘hurtful’ defeat

“I think it’s going to take several months,” Howe said. “We are probably looking at his return at the end of the international break in March.
“It’s a big blow for us at a crucial stage of the season. He’s devastated. But it’s the way it is and there’s nothing we can do about it.
“We have to get him back safely and other players have to step up in his absence.”

Howe added to TNT Sports: “He brings so much quality, technical quality and passion that you’ll never be able to replace him for like.”
“I think we’re going to be a little different without him. We have to find a way. We weren’t as good without him and we know that. So we have to try to find solutions internally.”
Guimarães’ absence creates problems at the heart of Howe’s midfield for the important games ahead.
These games will be played either side of next Saturday night’s visit to title-chasing Manchester City.
If Newcastle advance through Qarabag, Guimarães will miss the round of 16 games against either Chelsea or Barcelona.
Thanks to Newcastle’s come-from-behind victory over Villa, they will face off in the FA Cup fifth round in early March, but this will also be a game they will have to prepare for without Guimarães.
The 28-year-old will also miss the league game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on March 14, and the home game against arch-rivals Sunderland on March 22.
