Nottingham Forest have announced the appointment of Vitor Pereira as their fourth manager this season.
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager has signed an 18-month contract.

Pereira won the Primeira Liga for two seasons in a row with Porto, and went on to lead Olympiakos and Shanghai SIPG to league titles. He has had a varied career with his former clubs including Al Ahly, Fenerbahce, Corinthians and Flamengo.

Forest’s goalless draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers in midweek left them 17th in the Premier League, a result that prompted owner Evangelos Marinakis to sack former manager Sean Dyche.

Diche was appointed to replace Ange Postecoglou, who took over after Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked in September, meaning there will be at least four permanent managers at the City Ground this season.

Santo currently manages West Ham United, who are in first place in the league table, three points behind Forest.

Pereira won 14 of his 38 games in charge of Wolves and maintained that record last season, but a poor start to the season saw him replaced by Rob Edwards, who had just joined Middlesbrough as coach in the summer.

He was sacked by Wolves after accumulating just two points from 30 points after 10 league games.

The Portuguese already has a working relationship with owner Marinakis, having previously been in charge of the Greek shipping tycoon’s other club, Olympiakos.

In the 2014/15 season, he won the league title and the Greek Cup in six months, before moving to Turkish side Fenerbahce in the Super Lig.

In his first game as Forest manager, Pereira faces his former club Fenerbahce in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League play-offs, with the return leg on 26 February, with the aim of qualifying for the knockout stages.

Both games against Fenerbahce will be broadcast live on TNT Sports and Discovery Plus.

Pereira’s first chance to take charge in the league will be when he welcomes Liverpool to the City Ground on Sunday 22 February.

Forest has confirmed that Pereira will bring in a number of staff, including Filipe Almeida and Luiz da Silva as two assistant coaches.
