Former Lionesses star Eni Aluko appeared on talkSPORT earlier this week and gave his latest comments on the opportunity he received on-air.
Eni Aluko has confirmed that he has decided to step away from British television following the recent scandal. The former Lionesses star hit the headlines again this week after deciding to give ITV a try, similar to Ian Wright, due to a lack of opportunities in broadcasting.
She then appeared on talkSPORT with Jim White and Simon Jordan to clarify her comments. She has chosen to turn down some gigs, suggesting that cutting back on opportunities is a positive choice.
Asked if she believed broadcasting in the UK was an option now, she said: “In the UK…I think it’s a very toxic space for me. And I’m fighting right now just to have an opinion.”
“It feels like you can’t say anything without the instant backlash that comes with the fact that people have already decided they don’t like you.

“I’m a fighter, I’m a resilient person, and I don’t feel welcome when I’m like, ‘No, I want to express my opinion.’ That was my point.
“I’m not in the game anymore. I’m not trying to get people out of my way so I can be in the game. I need to recognize an environment where I can grow and really do my job.”
“I don’t feel like that in England at the moment. I don’t know what will happen in the future, but I will always be passionate about women’s football.”

Aluko’s comments follow a scathing response from Jordan, who questioned her ability as a critic. “As far as expertise goes, listening to her as a critic of the era I have heard her speak to, I never found her particularly enlightening, enlightening, charming, charismatic, or particularly likable.
“Eni, the words you use are imbued with a sense of entitlement to me, like you believe that the weight of your entitlements would sink the Titanic again.
“I think you’ve been very fortunate, because of initiatives like DEI, we’ve been able to put people in positions that we don’t think they would benefit from in the men’s game, and now that’s kind of planting the seeds of attitude to be a force in the women’s game.”
Apart from Jordan and White, Aluko has also been at the center of a spat with former colleague Laura Woods, accusing her of “gaslighting”.
