Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney reveals his dissatisfaction
Wayne Rooney has expressed his displeasure with the United strand as it continues to be linked with the collapse of Manchester United.
United fan Frank Ilett went viral after vowing not to cut his hair until his team won five games in a row. This light-hearted promise was made in October 2024 in order to bring some joy to fans who are dissatisfied with the club’s performance.
But what started as a harmless joke has now dragged on for nearly 500 days due to United’s inconsistent form under former manager Ruben Amorim. Caretaker manager Michael Carrick brought stability to the side with wins over Arsenal, Manchester City, Fulham and Tottenham, almost completing a run of five consecutive wins.
However, the team failed in the final match, securing a last-minute draw against West Ham thanks to Benjamin Sesco’s goal. As a result, Ilett’s long-awaited haircut remains on hold, with Rooney expressing frustration with the ongoing situation.

During an appearance on Sam Allardyce’s No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, the former United star was asked if he would cut his hair if a fan asked him to. Rooney said: ‘I would put him on the other side of the country, he’s giving me a headache.

“We’re talking about Carrick and United trying to win five games in a row, but it’s all about this player getting a haircut. He’ll be shocked if United win the fifth game, because suddenly he’s irrelevant.”
“The way social media is picking this up right now is that if Man United win a football match, a guy is going to get a haircut.”
Rooney’s sentiments clearly show how negative he is about the situation and suggest that supporters are more focused on the light-hearted gimmick than the current state of the club. Former Bolton Wanderers manager Allardyce agreed: “Is he going to have a shaved head or a shaved head?”
“I mean, I’d like to say you have to go bald. But I know Wayne’s right, he’s mentally insane, right?”
United remained fourth in the Premier League with a draw with the Hammers after Chelsea drew 2-2 with Leeds United on Tuesday. The Red Devils are two points behind Aston Villa and five points behind City, who both face Brighton and Fulham on Wednesday.

After the draw, caretaker manager Carrick acknowledged his team could have performed better but hailed their resilience to secure a point. “We were okay. I think it was a little disappointing. We definitely weren’t at our best,” he told TNT Sports.
“When you’re not at your absolute best you can find a way and keep a clean sheet and move on. So we’re a bit frustrated by that. We’ve played five games now and we’re at a really good level. It’s a difficult place to come from but they made it difficult.”
“We lacked the sharpness and inspiration to find answers. In the end, credit goes to the players for showing their mental strength again and scoring late on when we needed it. That’s a great quality. We’ll take that seriously and move on.”
