Manchester City winger Jack Grealish has undergone surgery on a stress fracture in his foot, ending his loan spell at Everton for the 2025/26 season.
Jack Grealish has confirmed his season is over after undergoing surgery on a foot injury. Mr Grealish suffered a stress fracture in his foot on January 18 and is “disappointed” that his campaign came to an abrupt end.
The 30-year-old winger joined Everton on a season-long loan from Manchester City and has impressed, scoring two goals and providing six assists in 22 appearances. But the injury sustained in last month’s 1-0 win against Aston Villa dealt him a cruel blow.
Posting a photo of himself lying in a hospital bed, Grealish wrote: “This is not how I wanted the season to end, but that’s football, a bone was broken. The surgery is over and now we’re all focused on getting back fit. I’m confident we’ll come back even healthier, stronger and better than before.”
“The support I have received since coming to this incredible club has meant the world to me. The staff, teammates and especially the fans have been amazing and I absolutely love representing this club.

“I will give my full support to the players and do everything I can to get them back as soon as possible. Thank you again for all the love. It means so much.”
He has received a huge amount of support from the football world, with City star Erling Haaland, Manchester United’s Harry Maguire, Everton’s Keiynan Dewsbury-Hall and England stars Declan Rice and Morgan Rodgers wishing him well.
Among the other players who sent him messages were Arsenal defender Piero Hincapie, Burnley’s Kyle Walker, Tottenham’s James Maddison (who himself has experienced such setbacks, having undergone surgery earlier in the season), Liverpool’s Curtis Jones and Brentford’s Jordan Henderson.
Grealish left City this season in search of more regular appearances in hopes of breaking into Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup squad, but has not played for Lee Carsley’s Three Lions since October 2024. He showed glimpses of his former self at Everton and was coveted by their fans, but his season was cut short.
“It’s really disappointing for the player, for the club and for all of us here,” Everton manager David Moyes said last month. “He plays a very important role. He’s a big person and a big experience for us. We’re going to miss him. He’s done a lot of really good things for us.”
Earlier this season, Grealish explained why he decided to join Everton in the summer. “People were saying to me, ‘What are you doing going to Everton?’ and I thought, ‘What do you mean?’ This is a huge club. I’m at my best when I feel loved,” he said.
“You know, I’m very vulnerable off the field, so I just wanted to feel the love again and wake up in the morning and play again with a smile on my face.”
Grealish is under contract with City until June 2027, having joined from Aston Villa in 2021 for £100m.
