Eddie Howe makes defiant statement about Newcastle United’s future: ‘There’s no doubt about it’

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is under pressure from supporters after three successive Premier League defeats, with the Magpies sitting 12th in the top flight heading into Tuesday night’s clash with Tottenham.

Eddie Howe has insisted he will not quit Newcastle United despite being booed after Saturday’s defeat to Brentford. Thune is under increasing pressure ahead of Tuesday’s desperate derby against Spurs.

Newcastle boss Howe received public support from CEO David Hopkinson last week and is said to have received further internal backing from Canadian sporting director Ross Wilson over the weekend. However, Howe’s team will be expecting a big performance from Tottenham, who are yet to win in 2026, and Thomas Frank will be under a lot of pressure.

But Howe insists no one is putting more pressure on him than he is and insists the Magpies can emerge stronger from their current slump.

“I care very much about what I do. I care very much about the club,” Howe declared. “For me the club will always be number one, not myself, not any player, it’s the club and what that means.

“And of course the players are a big part of that. So in every decision I make, whether it’s about myself or whether it’s about individual players, I’m always going to act in the best interest of the club. So when I try to act that way, I think you’re trying to think about the bigger picture. The pressure that individuals and other people put on you is irrelevant. I have to live with myself and my idea of what I’m offering. I’ll be honest and say I need to do better and I’m going to do better.”

“It’s part of evolution. It’s part of growth and these difficult moments are where we grow the most, so I’m looking forward to trying to do well.”

Newcastle are now in 12th place in the Premier League after three consecutive defeats. But when asked if he had any doubts about his suitability for the job, Howe insisted:

“And that’s why I’m sitting here. If ever, I’m not, because like I said, the club is the most important thing. If I don’t think I’m the right person to take the team forward and give the players what they need, I’ll stand back and let someone else do it.”

Asked if Newcastle needed to do their best to get the three points against Spurs and turn the table around, Howe added: “I think so. I think that’s where your qualities have to come to the forefront, because that’s when everyone is looking to you to set the tone.”

“People want to follow, that’s human nature. So when you have strength as a leader in times like this, you can drag everyone along. That’s when it’s most important to stand up and show your character and show how much it means to you.”

“That’s what we and our staff are trying to do. We’ve got a great group of players, we’ve got a really loyal group, we’ve got a group that really cares, so there’s nothing wrong with that. We just need to improve the quality of our performance.”
