Manchester United beat 10-man Spurs at Old Trafford on Saturday for their fourth successive Premier League win as they continued their dramatic turnaround under manager Michael Carrick.
Owen Hargreaves has claimed Michael Carrick has finally solved Manchester United’s midfield problems after praising Bruno Fernandes’ “ridiculous” form. The Red Devils have won four in a row under their former star against the 10-man Spurs.
Brian Mbeumo made the perfect start for United after Tottenham captain Cristian Romero was sent off for a harsh challenge on Casemiro. Fernandes then doubled his lead and recorded his 200th goal contribution for the club.
Former United star Hargreaves insists the club’s midfield, which was a weakness under former manager Ruben Amorim, is now a strength at the club. He also reserved special praise for the Portuguese playmaker following his recent star performance.
He told TNT Sports: “To be honest, 200 goals involved is ridiculous. That’s a PlayStation number. He’s playing with risks, but those risks benefit the team.”
“Coby (Mainoux) at the back was great again, Casemiro… those three were probably the best three players in the game in my opinion.

“We said beforehand that under coach Ruben Amorim, the midfield is our weakness, but the midfield three are really good.
“Obviously Bruno is the best player in the country mile and I think they look a lot stronger as a midfield three.”
But Fernandes did not allow his team-mates to rest on their laurels, insisting they were now aiming for five consecutive wins. He said, “When you win a match, your confidence increases more and more. It’s very important right now to stay focused and not push yourself too hard.”

“This is very good and very impressive, but we need to keep moving forward. If we don’t win the next game and the next game, we’ll be back in the same uncomfortable place. We’ll lose confidence and have a hard time believing in everything we’ve done.”
“But we’ve done very well so far to do everything that Michael and the staff have asked of us, and we played responsibly and bravely in some moments of the game and did whatever it took to win the game. The main focus is on the next game. We’ve won four in a row. This time was great, but now we need to win five in a row.”
United are next back in action, taking on West Ham United at the London Stadium in midweek.
