Luis Enrique would rather sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain and join Manchester United this summer
Luis Enrique will rule out a move to Manchester United in order to sign a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain. The Spaniard has been named one of United’s top targets in their search for a permanent manager, with United’s representatives claimed to have traveled to Paris to meet the former Barcelona manager.
His current contract with PSG, where he led them to Champions League glory last season, runs until the end of 2026-27. It has been suggested that United may have tried to dissuade him from signing a new contract.
However, it is understood that he believes a job at United is not the right project for him. And he is reluctant to take charge of a club that may not be able to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Enrique, 55, is in talks with PSG sporting director Luis Campos over a new contract with the Parc des Princes, which will keep him in the French capital until 2030. Enrique has a strong relationship with Campos, who also just signed a contract extension.

The news is a blow to United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazer family, with Ratcliffe known to admire Enrique, making him one of their main targets. Michael Carrick has been appointed interim manager as club leaders consider choosing a full-time manager in the summer.
The Old Trafford leadership are looking for someone who can handle the high pressure and expectations that come with being a manager, and there is no doubting Enrique’s extensive managerial experience at the highest level.
He won nine major trophies during his time at Barcelona, including the 2015 Champions League, and a further 10 with PSG, including last season’s victory in European football’s top club competition.
When the time comes to leave PSG, he is said to prefer to serve as second manager at Barça rather than heading elsewhere.
For United, Carrick is a candidate if they qualify for the Champions League, but England manager Thomas Tuchel and Carlo Ancelotti are also being considered.
