Darts world champion and teenage superstar Luke Littler angered Tottenham supporters during Saturday’s game against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Luke Littler was given the chance to parade the World Championship trophy on the pitch at Old Trafford, but he probably didn’t expect to hear Michael van Gerwen’s name at the time.
The teenage superstar unveiled the trophy during half-time of the Premier League game between Manchester United and Tottenham. Littler’s celebration was not shown on TNT Sports, but was interrupted by Spurs supporters who were looking for some encouragement after their team lost 1-0.
As chants of “Oh, Michael van Gerwen” rang out from the stands, Littler immediately responded by pointing at the trophy and holding two fingers aloft.
Darts’ dominant star is not uncommon for being targeted by fans following his success. On the opening night of Premier League darts action, Littler faced some heckling.
Littler launched a cheeky attack on Newcastle fans less than 10 minutes after losing 6-4 to Jan van Veen. At the time, he fired back in a post he shared on his Instagram story.

Littler seemed to be referring to Newcastle’s 3-1 loss to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup second leg the night before. As a result, the Magpies were eliminated from the competition.
He posted a photo of himself watching the tournament on a projector screen and wrote, “Newcastle, you were amazing. Continue next week. PS 3 wins, 1 loss.”
The two-time world champion and United fan faced a hostile reaction during Ally Pally’s campaign. The reaction initially seemed to rattle the youngster, but it didn’t affect Dart.
After one incident, he said, “I don’t care about (the boos).” “I really don’t care. You’re paying for the tickets, you’re paying for my prize money, so thank you for booing me. No one wanted me to win, but I proved them wrong again.”
After defeating Rob Cross, Littler added, “They want the underdog to win and they want the favorite to be eliminated.”
“I had to get out of the way and get my job done. I think it’s my first time competing in a world championship, but the crowd didn’t want me to win. I expect the worst on New Year’s Day.”
Littler seemed to be enjoying the attention at Theater of Dreams, but he would have enjoyed the outcome even more. Brian Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes ensured victory for the home side despite Cristian Romero being sent off.
