Cole Palmer scored a hat-trick as Chelsea bounced back from defeat to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final with a 3-1 away win at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.
Following Manchester United’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham in the lunchtime kick-off, it was important for the Blues to keep an eye on their top-four rivals, and they did so with great emphasis.
This was Palmer’s fourth hat-trick in the Premier League, more than any other player in Chelsea’s history.
After 13 minutes they put Liam Rossenier’s side ahead from the penalty spot, and England increased their lead to two points again in the 35th minute from 12 yards out. Three minutes later, he found the back of the net for the third time, becoming the first player in Premier League history to score three hat-tricks in the first half.

This result ensures that Liam Rosenior’s side remain in fifth place, one point behind United, but Wolves, who pulled within a point with Tolu Alokodare’s goal nine minutes into the second period, will remain at the bottom of the table after losing their third straight match.

Arsenal extend their lead at the top of the table

Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the table with a comfortable 3-0 win over Sunderland at the Emirates.

Martin Zvimendi broke the deadlock for the hosts just before half-time, and Victor Gokeres scored in the second half to secure the three points.

It means the Gunners remain nine points clear as they continue to chase their first Premier League title for more than 20 years, but second-placed Manchester City do not play a game until they visit Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

Villa missed a chance to leapfrog City

Aston Villa missed out on a chance to move ahead of Manchester City into second place with a 1-1 draw away at Bournemouth.

Morgan Rogers’ goal put the visitors ahead in the 22nd minute, but Rayane equalized after the break, giving the hosts a point back.

Unai Emery’s side remain third in the table but have won just one of their last five Premier League games, leaving them just three points behind Manchester United and four points behind Chelsea.

The points move Bournemouth into 11th place, but the Cherries still could be overtaken by Newcastle and Brighton later this weekend.

West Ham’s revival continues

West Ham United picked up another vital three points away at Burnley as they continue their push towards safety under manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

It was an important match between both teams who were on the brink of elimination, but the Hammers won, making it their third win in their last four matches.

First-half goals from Crisencio Somerville and Valentin Castellanos gave West Ham a 2-0 win, moving them within three points of 17th-placed Nottingham Forest.

Burnley remain on 15 points, eight behind West Ham and 11 points clear of safety.

Everton surprised Fulham late in the game

Two late goals saw Everton snatch a 2-1 win against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Vitaly Mykolenko’s own goal gave them the lead in the first half, but Keenan Dewsbury-Hall equalized in the final 15 minutes, before Bernd Leno’s own goal sealed victory for the Toffees.

David Moyes’ side are now seventh in the table, closing in on city rivals Liverpool, while Fulham sit 10th.
