Bruno Fernandes scored as Manchester United beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at Old Trafford, making it their fourth straight win under new head coach Michael Carrick.
Bruno Fernandes praised Michael Carrick for leading Manchester United to a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, their fourth consecutive win for the first time in two years.
Goals from either side of Brian Mbeumo and Fernandes were enough to turn Spurs’ 10-man side against them, and Cristian Romero was given a red card after the half-hour mark for a reckless follow-through on Casemiro. From that point on there was no doubt about the result and Mbeumo soon scored.
Fernandes was then asked about Carrick’s impact on him in such a short period of time, after finishing the game with his 200th goal in a Manchester United shirt.
“I think Michael came in with the right idea of giving the players the freedom to take responsibility on the pitch to make the necessary decisions,” the United captain told TNT Sports.

“I think he remembers what I said the last time he was a manager: I think Michael can be a great manager and he’s just shown that.”
“I hope we can help him more so everyone can see that we are good players. That’s why we are at Man United. I think everyone understands the pressure of playing at this club. Everyone knows the expectations around them.”
“Michael has won everything here. He knows what it means to the fans and how much it takes to win at this football club.”

Despite winning his first three games in charge, Carrick insisted on the eve of the game against Spurs that he should not make an “opportunistic” decision regarding the Manchester United job.
“Short-term results don’t change that,” Carrick said. “If they change it, something’s wrong. I’m not so nervous about whether it’s really good or whether there are some issues that need to be ironed out. It’s really steady progress.”
“You know football can twist and turn quickly as well, so we have to stay level and stay focused on what we have to do.”
United will face West Ham United at the London Stadium in midweek as they aim for a fifth straight win.
