Liverpool face Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, with the Reds expected to be without a number of key defenders, including Jeremy Frimpong, against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Manager Arne Slott has admitted that Liverpool “do not have many defenders left”, with Jeremy Frimpong expected to miss this weekend’s game against Manchester City. The Reds welcome Josep Guardiola’s side to Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Slott’s side, who have fallen to sixth place in the Premier League, need a win to regain their top-four spot. However, Liverpool entered the game facing a defensive crisis.
Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are currently on long-term sidelines, but Slott expects Frimpong to miss out after sustaining a thigh injury in the Champions League game against Qarabag.
“Jeremy Frimpong won’t be available at the weekend, but I hope Joe Gomez will be able to practice on Saturday. We don’t have many defenders left, so maybe he can contribute to the game,” the Dutchman said at the pre-match press conference.

Liverpool were able to add depth to their defense in the January transfer window, with the Reds signing Rennes star Jeremy Jacquet, but the move will not become formal until the summer.
Asked about the deal, Slott said: “I’m very happy because he’s a very great talent, probably more than a talent, but I’m talking about his age. We weren’t the only ones who were interested in him, so it’s a big compliment to the guys who sign the players.”
“Another example of the model we have at this club is players who are young, talented at an early stage in their career and who can develop and help us not only in the short term but definitely in the long term. We have recently signed a number of players, but the medium and long term future is in a very good position as well.”

Speaking about the upcoming match against City, Slott said: “The main thing I remember is the game we played there and outplayed for the majority of the first half. So this is another moment to see where we are in the development of this team.
“We understand the importance of results, it’s even more important now that we’re at the end of the season and we beat Newcastle without their starting XI, a very good team. So if you look at the game we played against them, you can see what a force Man City are and always will be.”
