Scotland are moving forward with a bid to sign Harvey Barnes in preparation for this summer’s World Cup, with the aim of signing the English-born Newcastle star.
Scotland have promised Harvey Barnes a place in their World Cup squad if he pledges international allegiance, ahead of England with the World Cup just months away.
The Newcastle winger remains a shrewd operator at St James’ Park but is currently not in the Three Lions’ shortlist, despite previously stating his desire to represent his country of birth.
Scotland have been looking to secure Barnes for some time but have recently stepped up their efforts and are seeking an answer before the March international break, the Telegraph reported. Steve Clarke needs to make a plan and wants to know if he can rely on the former Leicester man.
Barnes will provide a versatile offensive option that excels on the biggest stage. He has scored 12 goals this season, five of them in the Champions League, and is thought to be open to wearing Scottish blue.
The athlete qualified through his grandparents and is encouraged by his determination to win. As a result, he is seriously considering it.

Barnes is keen to play international football, but there are a number of names above him. Given England’s depth in attack, some players may not be able to join manager Thomas Tuchel’s team.
If Burns chooses to represent Scotland, he would be one of the candidates to start in the World Cup group opener against Haiti on June 14, provided he has played before the tournament. Scotland have a friendly against Japan on March 28th, and a World Cup warm-up match against Curacao on May 30th.
Scotland beat Denmark in their final group game on a dramatic night at Hampden Park in November, scoring twice in the final minutes to qualify for North America and secure a place in the World Cup.
Clark’s side enjoy a close game against Brazil in Miami, with Haiti and Morocco also in the group. The expansion of the tournament will allow teams that finish third to advance, raising hopes that Scotland will at least reach the knockout stages. Their efforts will be spearheaded by Napoli ace Scott McTominay.
