Benjamin Sesco came off the bench to score Manchester United’s dramatic winning goal in the 94th minute against Fulham, ensuring Michael Carrick’s perfect record remained intact.
Michael Carrick praised the work his coaching staff did on the training ground after Benjamin Sesco scored the dramatic winning goal against Fulham. Sesco came on from the bench and finished confidently in the 94th minute on Sunday, winning the match 3-2.
The Slovenian international has struggled for consistency since joining United from RB Leipzig for £74m in the summer. He has scored six goals in 21 appearances so far, ahead of fellow summer signings Brian Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.
But it was the 22-year-old who earned the praise against Fulham after converting an early mistake to head home the back post. Sesco collected Bruno Fernandes’ cross and swiveled his shot into the top corner to lift United into the top four of the Premier League.
His goal canceled out Fulham’s late outbursts from Raul Jimenez and Kevin and secured praise from Carrick, but United’s caretaker manager slammed Travis Binion, who was promoted from under-21 coach to first-team staff following Ruben Amorim’s sacking.

“It’s a great moment. I’m very, very happy,” Carrick said after the game. “The players, the staff and everyone in the dressing room were really happy for him and I think the reception he received when he came back into the dressing room said it all for us.
“Honestly, he was confident. I think he was great. We’ve worked a lot with him in different ways over the last few weeks. He’s been bright in training, looking dangerous, putting in that extra effort. The coaches have done a lot on the wing and Trav has been working a lot with him, especially one-on-one.”
“Ben is a great talent and has a lot of very positive things. And it’s a big goal today because as a striker, it’s the feeling of having to score the winning goal in front of the Stretford End like that. It’s the kind of thing you really dream about after missing an opportunity. It’s like that for a striker to miss another chance and throw it away. I’m really, really happy for him. He really deserves it.”
Binion stepped up from the Under-21s to the first team after Amorim was sacked at the start of January and Darren Fletcher was appointed interim manager. He has maintained promotions on Carrick’s staff and has clearly been working with Sesco in recent weeks.
He joined United from Sheffield United’s academy in 2019, first taking charge of the under-16s, before eventually taking charge of the under-18s and then the under-21s in the summer of 2023.
