Non-League club Kings Park Rangers have confirmed that player Sabri Adeniji is in hospital with a severe brain injury and the club are now aiming to raise funds.
Non-League side Kings Park Rangers have revealed that one of their players has suffered a fatal brain stem injury, leaving him “brain dead”. Sabri Adeniji was admitted to the intensive care unit at Queen’s Hospital on January 15th after being injured earlier this month.
The club confirmed Adenji’s death and set up a GoFundMe page to raise around £13,000 to cover travel costs for his family, who are currently in Nigeria.
The club said in a statement: “We urgently need help to help the family of Sabri Olinka Adeniji, a devoted husband, loving father and valued member of Kings Park Rangers Football Club. He is currently in a critical condition with severe brain stem injuries.
“Mr Saburi was admitted to the intensive care unit on January 15, 2026 and is under the care of the critical care department at Queen’s Hospital. According to the critical care consultant, his condition continues to deteriorate and death is now considered imminent.”

“Due to the severity of his injuries, Mr. Saburi has been medically classified as brain dead. Changes to the law earlier this year initially caused uncertainty and confusion in hospitals, meaning that life support could not be removed until further formal tests and procedures were completed. These necessary assessments are now being carried out.”
“The hospital has kindly allowed Saburi’s family a short period of time to travel to the UK to be with him before he dies naturally on life support or is taken off life support.
“Mr Sabri’s wife and young daughter are currently in Nigeria. In an official letter from the hospital, they urgently ask for compassionate consideration to allow his wife to travel to the UK as soon as possible so that she can be with him and say her final goodbyes.”
It added: “Saburi left behind his beloved four-year-old daughter. He worked tirelessly to support his family and was deeply determined to give his daughter a good education and a better future.”
Just over £8,000 has been raised, and the money will be used to cover emergency visa applications, flights, emergency travel costs, and accommodation and living expenses for Mr Saburi’s wife while she is in the UK.
A further statement from Kings Park Rangers, managed by veteran striker Jamie Cureton, read: “Amazing. We are absolutely amazed by all the funds raised. It is very special to see the football and non-league community really come together at a time like this.”
“Thank you so much to everyone who donated, retweeted or told us about our fundraising efforts. Raising awareness is just as important as donating.”
