Liverpool could loan out one of their brightest stars at the end of the January transfer window, but the Reds bosses need to be aware before making a deal.
Liverpool are in talks with Porto over a loan deal for academy prodigy Keylor Figueroa. The 19-year-old has impressed with Liverpool’s youth teams over the past few seasons and could now get his first taste of senior football.
According to reports in Portugal, Liverpool and Porto are in talks over a loan deal until the end of the season. The latter wants to add more attacking options to his squad following Luuk de Jong’s injury.
Porto are currently at the top of La Liga, having won 18 of the opening 19 games of the season under coach Francesco Farioli. They also have a chance of advancing to the Europa League finals if they defeat Rangers on Thursday night.
A loan would certainly benefit Figueroa, but Liverpool have one big problem to overcome first. The youngster’s contract expires at the end of the season, so it is likely that they will need to agree a new deal with him before he agrees to leave permanently.
Figueroa has scored 10 goals in 13 appearances for Liverpool’s Under-21s this season, and has also featured in the UEFA Youth League.

Speaking after the 2-1 win against Leeds in Premier League 2, Under-21 manager Rob Page said:
“He’s a great player to work with. He accepts everything we ask him to do and when the ball goes into the box, there’s a good chance he’ll go all the way to the goal. I’m really happy for him. He deserves it. He’s worked hard all week and I think he’s now the top scorer in the division.”
A number of academy stars have already impressed in Liverpool’s first team this season, with Rio Ngmoha and Trey Noni both among those on the brink of making the breakthrough.

However, his playing time has decreased recently and Liverpool are struggling to defend their Premier League title. The Reds will next return to action on Wednesday night when they face Qarabag in their final Champions League group stage game.
Asked about his team’s problems, coach Arne Slott said: “I think given our position in the league, it’s really difficult to silence the noise outside. Even if we win a few games, if we lose or have a disappointing result, the noise will come back.”
“If you start the season the way we did, that’s natural. If you start the season with too many losses in one moment instead of opening, that’s natural. But unless you’re playing in the league, it’s impossible to quiet the noise of a club like this. It’s very simple for me that we have to improve.”
