Cole Palmer has been linked with a surprising move to Manchester United, the club he has supported since he was a child, and Chelsea’s new manager Liam Rosenior has given a firm response.
Manager Liam Rosenior has tried to hide reports linking Cole Palmer with an “unrealistic” move to Manchester United. Chelsea’s new manager insists Palmer, 23, is “untouchable” and will not leave Stamford Bridge anytime soon.
On Monday, it was reported that Palmer, who supported United as a child, is open to returning to Manchester and signing for United despite his struggles. The England international has spent the past two-and-a-half years in London after leaving Manchester City for £42.5m and is reportedly unsettled and will attract interest from Old Trafford.
But Rosenior gave a firm response ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League match between Chelsea and Napoli away. Asked whether Palmer was “untouchable” and “happy,” Rosenier said: “Yes, I am.”
“It’s simple. Cole is a great player, just like the guy sitting next to me (Moises Caicedo) and many of the players in the group. I’m not surprised by the timing (of the rumors).”

“You get a new manager and all of a sudden people are (going to be) nervous. That’s not true. Cole is here and we’re very happy. I can’t wait to see him on the pitch.”
“There’s no reason to guarantee[Chelsea managers]. It’s so unrealistic. It came from nowhere, there’s nothing in it. There’s no reason to have a conversation. That’s my position.”
“I’m very happy for Cole. I’ve talked to him a lot about how we can make this team better, how he can improve and how I can help him, because he loves being here and wants to be a Chelsea player.”
“You can’t stop speculation, but some speculation is so far from the truth that it’s pointless to discuss it.”

In further good news for Chelsea fans, Palmer was part of the Blues’ 24-man squad on the trip to Naples after missing the last two games with a thigh problem. The 23-year-old will be hoping to help Chelsea claim all three points, guaranteeing a top-eight finish and automatically qualifying for the last 16.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace, Rosenior added: “I’ve spoken to Cole a number of times and he seems very happy to be here. He’s a big part of our long-term plans. He’s an outstanding player. Every player goes through difficult periods in their career with injuries and that’s not a reflection on his quality.”
