Michael Carrick continues to capitalize on the emotions he had while playing for Manchester United, while Matheus Cunha claims he has adopted their way of thinking against the world
Matheus Cunha has revealed that Michael Carrick told his Manchester United players that “everyone is against us” as they battled for a stunning victory over Arsenal.
The Brazilian came off the bench to score the winner in a thrilling five-goal game at the Emirates as the Red Devils came from behind to top the Premier League.
The victory came after Carrick’s first game as manager, a win over Manchester City. This furthers his own claims to take up the job after his term ends in the summer, with the former player drawing on the experience he gained while a player in Manchester.
Carrick has galvanized his side, with recent wins pushing them into the top four, and the 44-year-old has stressed to his players the importance of wearing a United shirt.
Cunha said: “He has been playing here for many years. He knows how he feels about Manchester United. He spoke to us and told us how big it is to play for this club. He said everyone is against us, so we have to go on the pitch and give our all.”

Carrick was equally full of praise for his summer signing from Wolves, praising his response in each of the last two games after starting on the bench before coming on in the second half and scoring in the final three minutes.
“He (Cunha) embodies what we’ve always been,” Carrick said. “He didn’t start both games and I’m disappointed he didn’t start. But he used his powers really well. He had a really big impact and had two big moments. I knew he was going to score as soon as the ball came out of his feet. He totally deserved it considering the way he played.”
Harry Maguire is back in the squad and believes the return of players like Brian Mbeumo and Amadou from AFCON, combined with the quality Cunha is producing off the bench, has made a difference.
“Obviously, our team is even bigger. With the players coming back from AFCON, obviously a player like Matthäus will come off the bench, but I’m sure he’s not happy with sitting on the bench the last few games. We know what kind of player he wants to play, but I have to say he’s made the difference in the last two games.”
“He came out against City and changed the game and he changed the game for us again today. It just shows the team of players and the offensive talent that we have now to come out and do that.”
