Listeners were left worried after Alan Brazil fell ill during talkSPORT’s breakfast show on Thursday, with the former Scotland international missing the second day.
Alan Brazil fell ill but is “fine” after “feeling dizzy” during TalkSPORT’s morning show on Thursday. The 66-year-old Brazilian was also absent from Friday’s show, and stand-in presenter Shevern Aherne provided an update.
Listeners were left in suspense after the former Scotland international failed to return to his hosting duties after the show was suspended on Thursday. Gabby Agbonlahor had to explain that Brazil were “a little out of sorts”.
Katie Shanahan was drafted to present the rest of the show. Brazil will miss the second day and Aerne will take part in the 6am program alongside Arsenal legend Ray Parlor. But the 66-year-old is set to return to the airwaves next Wednesday.
At the beginning of the show, Ahern said, “Poor Al, you got dizzy yesterday,” to which Parlor joked, “I think he drank too much bourbon!”

Ahane replied: “Yeah, too much sugar! Is it true that he spent the rest of the show lying on the couch while Katy was doing it? Apparently so.”
Ms Parler continued: “I hope he’s okay, Alan. He was feeling dizzy when I was here last week. The light is making him dizzy so if he gets dizzy afterwards and says, ‘Oh, I don’t feel so good,’ please turn down the lights just in case.”
Ahern reassured listeners by saying, “We’re sending our love to Al. He’s perfectly fine and in good spirits.”
talkSPORT also released a statement on Thursday, saying: “Alan Brazil fell ill during today’s talkSPORT breakfast show and took off the air just after 8am. Gabby Agbonlahor and Katie Shanahan hosted the remainder of the show. Alan is doing well and will be returning to talkSPORT soon. We wish him a speedy recovery.”
The former striker started his career with Ipswich Town in 1976 and went on to represent Brazil at Tottenham and Manchester United in the 1980s.
He also won 13 caps for Scotland at the 1982 World Cup. After suffering back problems, the Brazilian ended his professional football career at the age of 27, but did not retire until 1991, after playing for a number of lower league clubs.
He has hosted a breakfast show on talkSPORT since the station opened in 2000. Six years ago, he cut back on his time in Brazil and now hosts mostly Thursdays and Fridays. Brazil has three daughters: Lucy, Stephanie, and Michelle.
