Trent Alexander-Arnold’s start to life at Real Madrid has been disappointing and his time at the club could already be coming to an end, just seven months after leaving Liverpool
Real Madrid’s new manager Alvaro Arbeloa has reportedly told Trent Alexander-Arnold to leave the club, seven months after joining from Liverpool. Alexander-Arnold, 27, has endured a difficult first season with the La Liga giants, failing to secure a place in the starting XI and enduring injury setbacks.
The England squad has also not been helped by the behind-the-scenes issues that ultimately led to Xabi Alonso’s sacking. Arbeloa, who previously managed the club’s B team, was appointed as Alonso’s successor earlier this month and is already making a mark.
Spanish media outlet El Nacional reported that Arbeloa had a frank conversation with Alexander-Arnold and told him to leave Madrid for his own benefit in the summer transfer window. Arbeloa also told the former Liverpool star that he was not part of Real’s long-term plans and that it was a purely sporting decision.
The report added that Alexander-Arnold’s inner circle is already working to identify a club he could join this summer. Bernabéu leaders cited his low work rate in defense and overwhelming ability in attack as reasons for their decision to release him.

Alexander-Arnold has made just 16 appearances for Real, but was paid £10m in time for last summer’s Club World Cup. The 27-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in September and was sidelined again last month with a muscle problem.
Due to fitness issues, Alexander-Arnold has only played once for England manager Thomas Tuchel and is not guaranteed a place in the Three Lions’ squad for the World Cup. Alonso suggested he would give the right-back time to prove himself.
“Trent is a top player and we need him,” declared the former Madrid manager. “This is his first year and this adjustment period is normal. He is also demanding of himself so we have to support him through this big change.”

Alexander-Arnold quickly felt at home in the group after quitting Liverpool to join the 15-time European champions. “I can’t say enough about the players and how they welcomed me and made me feel at home,” he said in June.
“They all put in a lot of effort, talked to me, made me feel safe, answered my questions, especially regarding translations, and helped me a lot in every way. I can’t thank them enough and now I’m looking forward to the games starting.”
