Manchester City leaders have announced that supporters who traveled to Norway for their side’s 3-1 Champions League defeat to Bod/Glimt will be refunded.
Manchester City’s stars need to shake their heads. A group of them, led by the team captain, decided to refund the money to supporters who traveled to the Arctic Circle to watch Josep Guardiola’s side lose to Norwegian diminutive Bodo/Glimt.
The gesture will cost the player just under £10,000. But the amount is irrelevant, especially since most people with their hands in their cavernous pockets earn this amount before even getting out of bed.
The important thing here is the principle. The precedent it set. First of all, such a decision shows the height of contempt for Bodo/Glimt.
It’s like the English giants saying, “We should never lose to this team, because they’re not as good as us.” And lose fair and square to a better team.

But I’ll get my money back. Because it was a difficult place to get to, the weather was freezing, and beer was expensive. How patronizing is that?
It could be a combination of embarrassment and brain freeze. What would clubs do in the future if supporters agreed to pay for tickets after the match only if the team won?
If this became the norm, clubs like West Ham and Wolves would go bankrupt. Have Crystal Palace offered refunds to the poor souls who traveled to Macclesfield to witness the holders suffer the biggest shock in FA Cup history? no.
It took Palace 125 years to win the country’s biggest club competition, and one day before they lost again. But that didn’t justify travel fans getting their money back.

Perhaps Palace took the view that supporters would buy tickets and take a chance. Maybe they thought soccer was a competition after all. Teams win, teams lose.
Should Liverpool have refunded supporters who traveled to Wembley to watch the English giants lose to Wimbledon in the FA Cup final in 1988? please.
The hardy souls who went behind the Beyond to watch Guardiola’s team this week did so because they wanted to support their team. They also went there knowing that City could lose.
Being a football fan comes with its ups and downs. It’s called sports. This gesture is born out of kindness. This is nothing more than a public relations stunt for Guardiola, aimed at taking something positive out of a game in which his failure will never be forgotten.
