Marc Göch joins Manchester City and Tottenham’s admiration for Micky van de Ven revealed, Liverpool could move on to other goals
Micky van de Ven has attracted praise from Liverpool, who are thought to be likely to enter the transfer market this summer in search of defensive reinforcements after missing out on Marc Göch.
The Reds almost signed the 25-year-old Guehi for £35m in the summer, but Crystal Palace withdrew the move in the final hours of deadline day. The Premier League champions have looked vulnerable defensively this season and there was always hope that interest in Guehi would be reignited.
However, those plans were dashed by City, who signed Guehi last week. In devastating news for Tottenham, it has been revealed that Liverpool have a “strong interest” in Van de Ven ahead of the summer.

The Mail claims Liverpool are fans of the Dutch international and did not commit to a new contract despite Spurs’ attempts to tie him down.
Van de Ven is under contract until 2029, but his willingness to sign a new deal, coupled with Liverpool’s need for a quality central defender, could test Tottenham’s resolve in the summer, the article adds.
The talented 24-year-old has been on the rise since joining Spurs from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2023. Even in the difficult 2025-26 season under manager Thomas Frank, he was once again Spurs’ most consistent performer, scoring three goals in 21 Premier League games.
Speculation about a new attempt to sign Guehi accelerated in January after an anterior cruciate ligament injury ended the summer season in which signing Giovanni Leoni was prematurely ended, with City rushing ahead of others to strike a bargain deal for the England star.
As well as missing out on signing Gehi, there is also uncertainty over Ibrahima Konate’s future at Anfield when his contract ends in the summer.
The 26-year-old Frenchman is currently in the final six months of his contract and can negotiate with overseas clubs. In the first half of the season, there were rumors that he would move to Real Madrid, but his form has not improved this season, and transfer talks have cooled down recently.
