Castellanos scores first West Ham goal with ‘bullet header’ in extra time

Potts, 22, has been in the spotlight this season after spending the past two seasons on loan at Wycombe Wanderers and Portsmouth.
However, with his father now coaching him, the younger Potts maintains an estranged relationship on the practice field, intent on winning the respect of his teammates through his ability.

Speaking to TNT Sports pundit and former West Ham player Joe Cole, who played alongside Steve and Dan during their two years at the club, Potts explained how he interacts with his father at the football academy.
“It all started here for all of us, my dad a long time ago, my brother very recently and all of us being born and raised in the area, all living in Romford, I think this club was where we all wanted to play and we all made it happen,” Potts said.
“For me, and the kind of relationship that me and my father have now, especially with my father who is one of the first-team coaches, I want to distance myself as much as possible.
“You don’t want the rest of the players to look at you and think, ‘Oh, you’re relying on someone you already know in the coaches’ room.’” And that’s not really the case.
“Fortunately, I don’t do that on the training ground, but obviously when I get home I look to him for advice and things to work on.
“For me and him, it’s about staying at arm’s length and letting me do my thing.”
It has been a difficult season for West Ham so far, with the club sitting in 18th place, five points off safety, until Sunderland visit the London Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

However, despite his poor form there were some highlights, particularly Potts’ first start in a 3-1 win over Newcastle in November, and last weekend’s 2-1 win away to Tottenham, closing the gap on Nottingham Forest in 17th place.
Although Potts did not feature in the game against Spurs, he particularly liked these two results and hopes to see more of them in the near future.
“I remember walking out to my home stadium and my whole family was there and everyone was watching and thinking right. This is what I’ve always wanted to do,” he added.
“I focused on doing my job for the team and doing what the coach asked me to do. And thankfully, people said I did well, so it was a good day.
“When you win, it gives you confidence, especially when you’re in a position like you’re in the league. One win can completely change things in terms of confidence for the players and everyone involved.”
“We are looking forward to this game (against Sunderland) this weekend. It will be a good opportunity to build on last weekend’s achievements.”
