Cole Palmer is in his third season as a Chelsea player, but despite his huge influence, the former Blues captain believes he could be on the verge of leaving Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea great Marcel Desailly believes Cole Palmer could submit a transfer request if he thinks the Blues cannot achieve Premier League glory within the next two years.
Palmer was the best signing of the Todd Boley era, when many expensive players underperformed. His £40m move from Manchester City has proven to be a great piece of business and he has shone since becoming a guaranteed starter.
However, Chelsea themselves are not involved in the title race, with their mission now being to qualify for the Champions League once again. The 23-year-old has recovered from a groin problem and returned to his regular role, but Desailly fears he wants to go to a club that will develop around him.
While talk of a return to the Etihad is inevitable, Desailly remains open to leaving, with Manchester United, whom Palmer has supported since childhood, being mentioned as a potential destination.
He told The Card Player: “The question is whether he feels Chelsea can win the Premier League in the next two seasons. If not, I’m sure he will request a move to a club that has a system built around him.”

The former Blues captain continued: “If Cole Palmer decides to leave Chelsea, that’s his job, but I want him to respect the club because they gave him the tools to become the player he is now.”
“Even though manager Enzo Maresca uses him in different positions, I would like him to remain at Stamford Bridge because he has an important role in the team. I think Palmer wants more stability and a system built for him, but he still needs to fully recover from his groin injury and return to full fitness.”
“His recent performances speak for themselves so he needs to remain humble and come back to help the club, whether he stays or leaves.”
Palmer made a huge contribution to the England national team, scoring 25 goals in his debut season in west London. Chelsea have a new man at the helm in Liam Rosenior and his influence, along with how Palmer is used, could have a huge impact on the future of the Blues and their playmakers.
