Gabby Logan returned to the game on Tuesday after having to leave midway through Match of the Day earlier this month as she attended to a family emergency following the death of her father.
Gabby Logan admitted that before her father, Terry Yorath, passed away earlier this month, she received a phone call on air and was unsure whether she would return to TV hosting. The Leeds and Wales legend died on January 7 at the age of 75.
Rogan returned to the Sports Agent podcast with Mark Chapman earlier this month and returned to television on Tuesday with Amazon Prime’s Champions League coverage of Arsenal’s win over Inter Milan.
The 52-year-old has long been considered one of the best in her profession and has anchored some of the world’s biggest sporting events. However, she was forced to leave midway through Match of the Day earlier this month and was replaced by Chapman, who told viewers that Logan was dealing with a “family emergency.”
In the aftermath of Tuesday’s crash, Logan said she was “a little apprehensive” when she finally got the life-changing phone call and returned to her day job.
She said: “Last night I was back in the saddle at San Siro. I won’t say it was easy. Last time I was hosting a soccer show, I received a phone call that shook the world. So before I went to Milan there was some unaccustomed nervousness and a bit of anxiety.”

“But the football family is so nice and at the end of the day it was great to be back doing what I love. And of course Arsenal gave us a great story to tell. In the two weeks since my dad passed away, football has really had a positive impact on our lives. Community is strong and really shows up when you need it and we will never forget that.”
Last weekend Logan and some of his family gathered in the Leeds stands to pay tribute to his father with a minute’s applause ahead of the 1-0 win against Fulham.
Yolas played for Leeds from 1967 to 1976. With Los Blancos, he won the First Division title in 1973-74 and also reached the finals of the European Cup, European Cup Winners’ Cup and FA Cup.
After Mr Logan’s death, he gave an emotional eulogy, including an admission about his illness: “We knew he had limited time, but it’s still a shock. Yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) I sat by his bedside at St James’s Hospital, Leeds, and we debated whether roast potatoes with calf’s liver were better than mashed potatoes.”
“That was the meal he decided he wanted to have when he got home tomorrow (Friday). I left the house and went to work. He was looking forward to watching his favorite game, Newcastle v Leeds. “He won’t be going home tomorrow, but he’ll be reunited with Daniel (Logan’s brother who died when he was 15) so it will feel like home.”
