After Liverpool’s Champions League win over Marseille, Arn Slott couldn’t help but criticize Jamie Carragher in an interview with CBS Sports
Arn Slott has slammed Jamie Carragher, jokingly telling the Liverpool icon: “I don’t think I should listen to you.” The Liverpool manager was in good spirits after the Reds took a big step towards securing an automatic place in the Champions League round of 16.
They traveled to France to take on Marseille and put the Ligue 1 side to the sword with a clinical performance. A classy free-kick from Dominik Szoboszlai was followed by an own goal from Geronimo Lulli and a shot from Kodi Gakpo in the 93rd minute.
It was a big result for the Merseysiders, who have drawn their last four Premier League games. The Reds have also been criticized for being too slow and boring in attack, but Carragher asked Slott how he felt after seeing his team score three goals and keep a clean sheet.

The Liverpool icon asked: “Arne, can I ask you about tonight’s set-up? Over the last few months you’ve been trying to make the team better, playing in different formations, could you explain how it went tonight?”
Coach Slott replied with a wry smile, “Jamie, it’s hard to listen to you because you told me I had to try not to concede so many goals.”

“So I started doing that (changing formations regularly) and people started complaining that it got boring, so I don’t know if I should listen to you.”
Slott also jokingly suggested that Carragher only talks about Liverpool when things aren’t going well, saying: “We scored three goals and now people like Jamie are positive about us. I don’t think you were positive after the Burnley game, Jamie?”
Slott’s quick reaction caused laughter at the CBS studio, which also featured Mika Richards, Thierry Henry and presenter Kate Abdo. After the laughter died down, Slott took the trouble to answer Carragher’s questions and explain his thought process.
When asked about the changes, he said: “Because of the injuries, because of the available players, and because of the opponent’s style of play.
“We thought it would be a good idea to have Mohamed Salah and Hugo Ekitike play up front and fill the midfield with very good players between the lines.
“I think you saw today that with Mac Allister and Ryan (Grafenberch) we have a full-back who can attack down the flanks and can help Joe (Gomez) and Virgil (van Dijk) in the build-up.”
It was an interesting ending to a perfect night for the slot side. They are very close to securing a spot in the Round of 16 after eight automatic qualifying spots.
If they win against Azerbaijan’s Qarabag at Anfield, they will advance to the last 16 without having to play in the two-legged play-off. This would be a huge boost for a team in the slot that is still locked in a tight battle for a top-four spot in the country.
