Bodo/Glimt 3-1 Manchester City: Josep Guardiola watched his defense fall apart time and time again as his team enjoyed one of the most memorable nights in second place in Norway
Bodø/Glimt beat the Premier League giants for their best ever result, but Manchester City lost in a city that couldn’t even fill the Etihad.
Despite having chances, Josep Guardiola’s side could not cope with the Norwegians, who could have enjoyed an even bigger victory. City had their usual quality in midfield and attack, but their backline was decimated by injuries and simply could not cope.
Bodo/Glimt started dreaming midway through the first half, when Kasper Hogg scored two goals within two minutes. His first goal came when he headed home unopposed at the back post past Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The second goal came a few minutes later, when Bodo/Glimt attacked City on the break and, as the home fans began to dream, Ho saved Donnarumma for his first goal.
It was hoped that the Manchester side, undoubtedly shaken by Guardiola’s strong words, would fight back in the 45th minute of the second half, but things went from bad to worse. Jens Petter Hauge, who scored two goals against Tottenham in last year’s Europa League, scored a stunning third goal.

City’s hopes of a comeback were dashed almost as quickly as they were ignited. With 30 minutes remaining, Rayan Cherki scored from outside the penalty area to give the visitors victory, but two minutes later Rodri was sent off for a second yellow.
Erling Haaland has rarely had the opportunity to play for his home country during his career at the top level of European football. If things are sorted out by Tuesday night, he will be in no rush to return, as the country’s talisman fired another blank shot in front of fans cheering him on at this summer’s World Cup.
Haaland will be looking to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot again, but that’s due to a torrid start to the season, with the goals currently drying up. Although prolific for a long time, he was well below his best by his high standards and missed a huge chance to put City back into the game in the first half.
Haaland’s left-footed shot from half-volley from 12 yards out missed the target. Every time City conceded, the camera kept panning to the striker’s reaction as he could barely believe what he was witnessing.
Guardiola’s side are still poised to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League, but they may have to negotiate the difficult play-off stage they were eliminated from last year.
If City were to do anything in Europe, or domestically for that matter, they would want to sign Haaland, who has scored 14 goals in the first 11 games of the season. He’s not the kind of guy who has scored one goal in the last eight games.
