Manchester City captains paid nearly £10,000 to cover ticket costs for all 374 fans who traveled to Norway after the club lost 3-1 to Bodø in the Champions League.
Manchester City captains have donated nearly £10,000 to cover the cost of tickets for all 374 supporters who attended the game in Bodø. Hundreds of Blues traveled to the Arctic Circle for the Champions League match, but were met with a lackluster performance and a shocking 3-1 defeat.
City started the night in fourth place with two games remaining, but this result leaves them at risk of dropping out of the Champions League play-offs.
They need to beat Galatasaray at home next Wednesday and will be hoping for another result in their favor to avoid two more games, which would mean additional expense for supporters who want to watch Galatasaray at home or away.
City captain Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Erling Haaland and Rodri jointly decided that fans who traveled to Norway should at least be refunded for the match, with the £9,357 payment at least a symbolic compensation after an expensive journey. “Our supporters mean everything to us,” they said, reports the Manchester Evening News.

“We know the sacrifices our fans make by traveling all over the world to support us, and we will never take that for granted. They are the best fans in the world.”
“We also recognize that it has been a difficult journey for our fans, who spent a tough night on the pitch and supported us in the freezing cold. It is the least we can do to cover the ticket costs for those who traveled to Bodo.
“I’m ready to play against Wolves on Saturday and then next Wednesday against Galatasaray in front of our great fans at the Etihad.”
Kevin Parker, speaking on behalf of the Official Supporters Club, said: “Manchester City fans will travel to the ends of the earth to support our team and last night was another part of the Arctic Circle. Bodø is not an easy place to access and sub-zero temperatures make it a challenging night for our fans on many levels.”
“City’s support has a great connection with the players on matchdays and this gesture is another reminder of that relationship and means a lot to us. I know the players are disappointed with the loss to Bodo, but we have a chance to get back to winning ways in our next game at home on Saturday and I’m sure the fans will be rooting for the team in full force as always.”
