Manchester City striker Erling Haaland made no excuses in a brutally honest interview after his side suffered a shock 3-1 defeat to Norwegian giants Bod/Glimt in the Champions League.
A frustrated Erling Haaland lashed out at himself and Manchester City’s other senior stars after their side suffered a crushing 3-1 defeat away to Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League.
It was far from the return home City’s imposing Norwegian striker had dreamed of on the eve of Tuesday’s match, with de Gaulle scoring in the first half off Kasper Ho’s quick strike, leaving manager Pep Guardiola stunned. Jens Petter Hauge grabbed a sensational third goal before Rayan Cherki provided some consolation for the disappointing visitors, with Rodri also sent off on a poor night.
Haaland, who grabbed a golden chance from close range just before half-time, has scored just once in his last six games. City’s No. 9, who had just suffered consecutive defeats, gave his evaluation of the night without punching any punches.

“No, of course (it wasn’t the return he wanted). We lost, we scored on the way back and then we got a red card, so it was a little difficult. I think it’s definitely a well-deserved win for Bodo. They play great here at home. In the end, I think it’s deserved.”
When asked what went wrong, Haaland added: “I don’t know[what went wrong]. We are doing our best, but clearly something is missing. Rodri, Jojo and Tigiani have full responsibility as experienced players. I don’t want to blame anyone, but in the end it’s not enough and we need to take more responsibility. We are Man City. We can’t go around without winning games. This shouldn’t happen.”
City finished 2025 on an eight-game winning streak, but have won just two of the seven games played so far in 2026. The defeat followed a poor performance in the Manchester derby, where they lost 2-0 on Saturday.
Haaland later regretted his failure to make an impact against Bodo when asked if City’s much-changed eleven looked to the ball against their Norwegian opponents.
“I don’t know, I don’t have an answer,” he admitted. “Again, I take full responsibility for not scoring the goal we should have. So I apologize to all the supporters who traveled today. It’s embarrassing. Bodo played some great football and they deserved it (the win).”
“I don’t know what to say because I don’t have an answer. All I can say is that I’m sorry.”
