Sky Sports requested an interview with Manchester United manager Michael Carrick, which could have led to a clash with Roy Keane, but plans were later changed.
Sky Sports has made a request for a possible interview with Roy Keane, just days after Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick targeted Carrick’s wife.
Broadcasters asked whether the new manager would hold an in-person pre-match interview in the studio before the Manchester derby. That would have created a scenario where Keane and Carrick interacted before the contest.
Sky was due to be interviewed, but after intervention from United officials, Gary Neville conducted the interview in the tunnel instead of in the studio, the Daily Mail reported.
Earlier this week, Mr Keane branded Mrs Carrick a “big mouth” during a talk at the Overlap. His comments were likely prompted by a social media post she made and later deleted after the Irish player accused her husband of giving a shady interview following the Champions League defeat to Olympiakos in 2014.
Twelve years ago, Mr Carrick’s wife reacted to Mr Keane’s criticism of the interview by posting on social media: “That asshole Roy Keane will say anything to provoke a reaction.”

She quickly deleted it, but Keane clearly remembers it and referenced it last week after Carrick’s induction, saying, “His wife can always come in (if things don’t work out for Carrick) because she opens her mouth a little bit big sometimes. Maybe she’s the one talking about the team.”
Carrick made the perfect start to his tenure at Old Trafford and could have been even more convincing with a 2-0 win against Manchester City. The former player has been given a role until the end of the season, but there is already talk of him taking the job permanently if he can give the team some direction and help them qualify for the Champions League.
Keane has criticized his former club for bringing in former players again, and has similarly criticized the composition of the coaching team. United have gone down this route before, handing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the job and then sacking him after almost three years in charge.
Jonny Evans was to join the coaching staff despite his lack of experience, which resonated with Keane. “Jonny Evans left Man United about four, five, six weeks ago, right? He left as a player in the summer, but they gave him the loan manager job. He left a month or two ago, but enough was enough. He left after a few months, not 10 years.”
“My problem with Jonny is that he hasn’t been coached. He hasn’t been in the academy for a few years.”
