Wayne Rooney has told Manchester United to make Thomas Tuchel their next permanent manager.
United have appointed Michael Carrick on an interim basis until the end of the season. Club owners the Glazers and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are considering appointing a full-time manager in the summer.
Tuchel, Carlo Ancelotti, Luis Enrique, Mauricio Pochettino and Xabi Alonso are all attracting United’s attention. But United legend Rooney believes his former club need to sign Tuchel.
The German manager will manage England at this summer’s World Cup, but is expected to step down after the tournament.
This means Tuchel will be available for free, but Rooney believes he is the right choice to help United get back on track.

He said on the Wayne Rooney Show: “Alonso had a great performance at (Bayer) Leverkusen and I think there are more chances for him to sit in the slot and wait for him (Liverpool manager Ahne) to look forward to it.
“Tuchel is the best player for me. He knows the Premier League, he has won trophies, he has done well in England. Time will tell.”
Meanwhile, Rooney supports Carrick’s future at United and believes he is the right choice at the moment.

Rooney and Carrick were teammates at Old Trafford, playing together 366 times and winning five Premier League titles.
Rooney added: “I don’t think we have a top class top manager at the moment so this is probably the obvious choice.”
“I think it’s the right choice at the moment. Of course it’s a difficult task. The current situation at Manchester United is not a good place, so Michael has to come in and steady the ship.”
