Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner was heavily linked with Manchester United’s appointment before announcing on Friday that he would be leaving Selhurst Park in the summer.
Oliver Glasner could leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season, but the Austrian’s performance does not necessarily increase his chances of joining Manchester United.
Glasner, 51, has made a huge impact at Selhurst Park since taking over two years ago. His stock rose significantly after leading the south London side to FA Cup glory last season, winning their first major trophy, and he has been consistently linked with higher-profile jobs in recent months.
Glasner’s contract expires at the end of the season and he was recently seen as a front-runner to replace Ruben Amorim when United hire a new permanent head coach in the summer, but the former Eintracht Frankfurt manager made a bombshell on Friday when he confirmed he would not sign a new contract with Palace.

However, the i Paper claims Glasner would be behind Thomas Tuchel and Roberto de Zerbi on United’s shortlist, even if he could be acquired without compensation. Part of the reason for this is Palace’s poor form of late, with Glasner overseeing a nine-game winless run.
The report goes on to outline that the Old Trafford giants are looking for a head coach with Premier League experience. Something that both Tuchel and De Zerbi have. Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique’s name has also been mentioned, but his availability is doubtful.
After months of speculation about Glasner’s future, he revealed on Friday that he had informed his players that he would be leaving in the summer. His announcement coincided with news that Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehy is on the brink of a move to Manchester City.
“I already told the club many months ago that I wanted a new challenge,” Glasner said at a press conference ahead of the weekend. “We had a very long discussion and I told him (chairman Steve Parrish) that I would not sign a new contract.
“At the time we agreed that it was best to keep this a secret between us, so it would be best to keep it a secret for three months. But it’s important to be clear now and we didn’t want to talk about it because we had very busy schedules. Steve and I want the best for Crystal Palace.”
