Manchester United are looking to add a defender to their squad in the summer, with Harry Maguire’s future uncertain, with Nottingham Forest’s Murillo in the spotlight.
Manchester United are considering a summer move for Murillo, targeting the Nottingham Forest defender at a time when Harry Maguire’s future remains uncertain.
Murillo, 23, has become one of the Premier League’s most impressive young centre-backs over the past two seasons after joining Forest from Corinthians for just £10 million. And his form has attracted attention at Old Trafford, with United bosses already planning for a crucial summer in which they will name a new permanent head coach.
Nottingham Forest are in a favorable position regarding the transfer rights to Murillo, having signed the Brazilian to a new four-and-a-half-year deal in January last year. However, the Mail claims the United target is open to the idea of a move after the season.

The report went on to add that Manchester United are planning to strengthen their defense in the summer and that Murillo could be one of the options they are considering to replace Maguire, who currently has six months left on his contract.
United are said to be more likely to sign Murillo from Forest if they qualify for the Champions League, and it is unlikely that Forest will go to Europe next year unless they win the Europa League.
The attention from the Premier League’s big boys is nothing new for Murillo or Nottingham Forest, who rejected a “club-record offer” from Chelsea last year to sign the star defender. Liverpool have previously been linked with an interest in the centre-half and are expected to be in the market for a defensive addition in the summer.
Given United’s interest in Murillo, it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will offer new terms for the 32-year-old Maguire, or whether the club’s former captain will be freed from Old Trafford on a free transfer at the end of the 2025-26 season.
The England star joined United in 2019 for £80m, making Maguire the most expensive defender in the world.
He is now free to speak to overseas clubs as his contract expires in June.
