Gerrard says Mourinho was a bit of a cheat on Chelsea transfer failure

Steven Gerrard has told TNT Sport’s Ally McCoist that he is ready to help his former club Liverpool if they need it.

But the Anfield legend insists he does not want to see Reds manager Arn Slott lose his job after a difficult 2025.

Slott led Liverpool to the Premier League title last season but has struggled this time around, winning just four of his last 12 top-flight games.

Gerrard is one of Liverpool’s all-time great players, having made 710 appearances for the Reds, and was the club’s youth coach shortly after his playing career ended.

“I’ll be brutally honest: I’m going to help Liverpool in every department, every day, every day, and I’ll help in any way,” he told McCoist.

“I don’t want Arne Slott to lose his job. I want him to fix this, turn things around and make Liverpool great.

“Four or five months ago, I was bouncing around town when Liverpool won the league.

“I’m a Liverpool fan and I want the best for Liverpool.

“But if Liverpool need me in any department at any time, I will be there for them.”

Liverpool have won their opening five Premier League games of the 2025/26 season.

However, they were defeated by FA Cup holders Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup and are currently in 5th place, 10 points behind leaders Arsenal.
They have struggled to maintain consistency in the UEFA Champions League as well, finishing ninth in the league phase table with four wins and two losses.

Gerrard led Liverpool to victory in the 2005 Champions League final against AC Milan.

The midfielder also enjoyed a long international career with England, but like many of his predecessors, he was unable to end the Three Lions’ wait for a silver medal.

Gerrard has previously described England’s “golden generation”, which included Frank Lampard, John Terry, Ashley Cole and David Beckham, as a group of “selfish losers”.

And he admitted he was part of the problem.

“I did something with Rio (Ferdinand) recently and some people thought I was pointing fingers, blaming, making excuses. I’m also part of the problem and my hands are up,” he said.

“The level of players in that locker room was unbelievable.

“But everything else has to be in place: injuries, tactics, adaptability, managing to get through a tough season in the Premier League.

“We had two chances and we took it to penalties, but that can happen.

“But I understand why you get asked that question a lot, because in my opinion, talent-wise, player by player, that team was good enough to win.”

England look set to be among the favorites to win next summer’s World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

In Group L, they faced Croatia, Panama and Ghana.
