Former United midfielder Paul Scholes criticized the Portuguese on his podcast The Good, The Bad & The Football, claiming he was “not the right man” for the job.
Asked about his comments at the pre-match press conference, Amorim said: “I think it’s normal.
“It’s true that as Manchester United manager I think we’re underachieving. We should be getting more points, especially this season, so I think that’s natural.”
“Sometimes they don’t have all the information, so they see Manchester United always winning by the standards they’ve lived here. It’s difficult for them to see their club in this situation.”

On whether the criticism affects his ability to perform, Amorim added: “Not really. The problem is not winning.”
“The problem is that as a manager I am not doing well enough. That is also true and I can accept that. The only problem for them is that Manchester United are not winning and are not where they should be.”
“As long as we win, there’s no problem.”
Mainu’s future is undecided
Amorim was also asked about midfielder Koby Mainu, whose future at United remains uncertain.
The 20-year-old is expected to seek a loan move in January after falling out of favor.
He remains a fan favorite and was well-received after coming on as a second-half substitute in last week’s 4-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Amorim said they had not discussed Maynou’s possible departure.
“Especially last year, I had some conversations with him and some other players, but on that subject, no, I didn’t talk to him,” he said.
“I would be really happy if Coby came and talked about it. I just want the players to be happy.
“I understand that everyone has their own goals and frustration doesn’t help anyone. I don’t know what I’m going to say, but I’m going to talk to him.
“I’m completely open, that’s obvious. I have my own thoughts and that’s obvious too. If you don’t believe me, I’m open to talking to any player. I love it.”
However, Amorim admitted that Mainu could compete with Casemiro for a role in United’s midfield.
“Yes, he can do it. I think it was against Everton, I took Casemiro out and put Koby in because we were trying to play a different game,” he added.
“He can play in that position. But sometimes it’s difficult. Koby Mainu, sometimes you have to think (if he’s a transition blocker). He needs to spend more time there, but he could be in that position in the future.”
