Clinical Man City keep Arsenal hot with impressive win at Palace
Erling Haaland scored a double and Phil Foden also scored as Manchester City beat Crystal Palace 3-0 to move level with leaders Arsenal.
Haaland was on the sidelines for most of the match, but broke the deadlock in the 41st minute when he headed home Matheus Nunez’s pinpoint cross.
Palace had the misfortune of seeing Yeremy Pinot’s shot hit the crossbar, posing a greater threat.
After the interval, the hosts were again bemoaning their luck as the impressive Adam Wharton hit the base of the post from 20 yards out.
There was an air of inevitability that City would make them pay, and Foden scored his sixth goal in his last four league games with a low shot with 21 minutes remaining.
Haaland then scored his sixth Premier League double of the season with a late penalty, sealing the victory and extending his all-time lead to 17.
The result means City remain second but move back to within two points of pacesetters Arsenal heading into the festival period. Palace sit fifth in the table but are unbeaten at Selhurst Park, but have lost consecutive home games in the top flight.
Next up, Palace host KuPS in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday, before visiting Leeds United in the Premier League on Saturday night. City host Brentford in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday before facing West Ham United in the league at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
