Laura Woods has opened up about the horrific death threats she received from a stalker during her two-year ordeal. Last year, Harneet Kaur was sentenced to 14 months in prison and given a restraining order prohibiting her from coming within 500 meters of Woods’ home.
Kaul set up multiple online accounts targeting Woods and had sexually transmitted disease test kits delivered to her address. Woods also received death threats and funeral letters. Breaking his silence for the first time about the nightmare, the TNT Sports presenter told the Telegraph: “For three years she did everything in her power to make my life extremely uncomfortable. There was even a birthday card that said, ‘Today is the day you were born, tonight is the night you die.'”
“I received funeral letters every month because she agreed to these things for me. She sent an animal welfare team to look after my dog.”
Kaul went so far as to make a fake emergency call to police, claiming that Woods had assaulted her. Mr Woods added: “She called the police and said she saw me being dragged into the house by a man with a knife.
“In 2023, I was in Poland covering the fight between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois, and while I was on the air, I got an email from her. It was a video of her front door and a message saying, ‘I know there are three cameras in your house.’
“I started going through all the video footage to see if there was anyone there. It was scary. Every way I could think of she was trying to get to me. Dating sites, spam sites, it was relentless. I couldn’t understand how one person could do it all.”
“She posted a video of her firing a gun at a shooting range in America and it was aimed at me. It was so over the top that it changed my feelings about London.
“I was living alone with my dog and I felt very exposed. I didn’t want to be there anymore. It put me in a pretty bad situation. I suddenly became extremely anxious and depressed.”
Woods, who has a 10-month-old son with fiance Adam Collard, gave an interview earlier this month while anchoring an England women’s match before collapsing live on TV.
ITV went into a commercial break and when coverage resumed, her colleague Katie Shanahan appeared in her place and said Woods had “taken ill”.
Woods later posted on his Instagram Story, “It was a little weird. Sorry to worry you all, I’m fine. The Saints’ amazing paramedics told me it was probably a virus and that I needed to get some rest and hydrate.”
“I’m really embarrassed that something like this happened on TV, but I’m so grateful to my colleagues at ITV who looked out for me tonight. And I’m sorry again to Righty and Neets for getting me.”
Woods has since returned to presenting duties, spearheading TNT Sports’ coverage of Manchester City’s Champions League game against Real Madrid this week.
