The third round of this season’s FA Cup will be televised, with eight matches scheduled to be broadcast live on the BBC and TNT Sports. A total of 32 games will be played over four days over the weekend from Friday, January 9th to Monday, January 12th. Reigning champions Crystal Palace begin their campaign with a trip to non-league side Macclesfield.
The match will be one of eight to be broadcast live on TV, and will be broadcast on BBC One on Saturday 10 January. The match between Tottenham and Aston Villa on the same day will also be shown on BBC One. Both matches will also be available to watch on the BBC Sport website and app and on the iPlayer service.
All televised matches, including those listed above, will also be broadcast live on TNT Sports, pursuant to a rights agreement agreed last year.
The first game of the weekend will see last season’s semi-finalists Nottingham Forest take on Championship side Wrexham, which will be broadcast live on TNT Sports on Friday 9th January.
Chelsea’s home game against Charlton Athletic will also be broadcast on TNT Sports on Saturday 10 January. Three games on Sunday, January 11th and one game on Monday, January 12th will be broadcast on the subscription network.
Sunday’s fixtures include Derby County at home against Leeds United, Portsmouth against Arsenal and Manchester United against Brighton & Hove Albion. Meanwhile, Liverpool host Barnsley the following day.
There are always some big shocks in the third round of the FA Cup, and this year will be no exception. Macclesfield will be hoping to spring a big surprise by knocking Palace out of the tournament at home.
Barnsley may have a chance against struggling Liverpool, but Portsmouth will face the unenviable task of defeating Premier League leaders and favorites Arsenal.
