Marcus Rashford is enjoying a loan move to Barcelona after leaving his boyhood club Manchester United in the summer after falling out with Ruben Amorim.
Marcus Rashford admits he only wanted to play for Manchester United as a child, but now he is grateful for the new experience Barcelona has brought him. Rashford joined Barça on a season-long loan in July after falling out of favor with Ruben Amorim at United and is enjoying life at his new club.
The English striker was put on United’s ‘bomb squad’ alongside unwanted players including Anthony, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malasia and Alejandro Garnacho. He became the first player to secure a move to another country, joining Barça, the club he had been eyeing all summer.
The 28-year-old has settled well into Hansi Flick’s side, scoring six goals and providing 11 assists in 21 games so far. Barcelona have the option to make the move permanent for 35 million euros (about £30.3 million) and Rashford, who has fallen out with Amorim, has made it clear he wants that to become a reality.
His thinking was reflected in his answers in an interview with BBC Sport. When asked if he thought he would end up playing for two big clubs like United and Barça when he was younger, he replied: “It’s crazy. When I was young my dream was to play for United and you never know what life will bring.”

“I feel very lucky and fortunate that this is one of the places I’ve been able to play, because it’s a huge club, a club I’ve always admired since I was a kid, and my favorite club outside of England. As many football fans know, it’s great football that they play here. It’s an incredible feeling to be able to wear this shirt.”
Rashford spoke glowingly of his new home in Catalonia, where he is learning Spanish and immersing himself in the culture. “It’s different, but it’s a great learning curve for me,” he said.
“Even if it’s a small thing, I haven’t done it completely yet, but learning things like languages, learning the culture, everything is fun for me.”
He added: “This is a new language of football. Like many people around the world, I have always been a fan of Spanish football. It’s a huge honor to play for Spain’s biggest club. I’m looking forward to playing more games here. I just have to do my best and try to help the team win.”
Rashford has thrived under the pressure that comes with playing for Barcelona. He came off the bench in Tuesday’s game against Frankfurt and provided an assist for Jules Kounde in a 2-1 come-from-behind win, earning him rave reviews from the Spanish media. Barça are four points behind La Liga leaders Real Madrid and are favorites to win the league after winning five straight games.
