Oscar returned to his first club São Paulo in December last year, but unfortunately his career looks set to end after he collapsed while using a stationary bike last month.
Former Chelsea midfielder Oscar has reportedly been diagnosed with a health condition and is set to announce his retirement. The 34-year-old was hospitalized last month after collapsing at a training ground in Sao Paulo.
He passed out during an interval test on a stationary bike. He was admitted to the ICU for observation and later diagnosed with vasovagal syncope, which causes a sudden drop in heart rate and blood pressure.
Oscar returned to São Paulo on a three-year contract in December last year after working in China for about eight years. It was a dream to return to the club where he started his career before making a name for himself at Chelsea, but it looks like that dream is doomed.
Brazilian media outlet Globo reported that Oscar has spoken with the club and has informed them that he now wishes to retire. A formal announcement is expected to be made soon about the midfielder, who won 48 caps for his country between 2011 and 2015.

Oscar’s return to the Brazilian club was interrupted by a spinal fracture he suffered in August. Sao Paulo was reportedly monitoring a heart problem that was revealed during an examination for a broken bone.
Oscar joined Chelsea from Internacional in 2012 and has made 203 appearances, scoring 38 goals and providing 31 assists. He won two Premier League titles, a League Cup and a Europa League title during his time at Stamford Bridge, before moving to China to earn millions.
He joined Shanghai in January 2017, with the club reportedly paying Chelsea £60 million for his services and then paying him £400,000 a week. Oscar earned a salary of around £175 million in Shanghai and spent nearly eight years in the Chinese city.
Oscar played 248 games for Shanghai Port, formerly known as Shanghai SIPG, scoring 77 goals and providing 141 assists, helping the team win three Chinese Super League titles, the FA Super Cup and the Chinese FA Cup.
On joining São Paulo, he said: “I am happy to return to Brazil and play in São Paulo, the club where I started, where I am based and where I grew up.
“We appreciate the love we have received on social media over the past few days and will do our best to accomplish great things together.”
After being hospitalized, Oscar reassured fans by writing on Instagram, “God willing, everything will be fine.”
