Bruno Fernandes has sent a message of support to Marcus Rashford after the Manchester United forward recorded an assist for Barcelona in the Champions League. Rashford, 28, joined Barca on loan from United in the summer and continued his excellent start to the Catalan club with an outstanding performance against Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday.
Rashford was called up at half-time as Barcelona were leading by one goal and in dire need of a player who could change the course of the game. The England star did not disappoint, assisting for the equalizer within five minutes of coming on to the pitch, whipping in a perfect cross for Jules Kounde to head home at the back post.
Although Rashford was not directly involved in Barça’s second goal, with Kounde scoring an additional goal to complete the double, he remained a threat throughout his time on the field and caused Frankfurt a lot of problems.
After the match, Rashford shared his thoughts in an Instagram post. “Champions League win at home (stadium emoji, flexed biceps emoji). Thank you for the support (crossed hands emoji, blue circle emoji, red circle emoji) @fcbarcelona,” he wrote, alongside six snapshots from the game against Frankfurt.
Reacting to Rashford’s post, United teammate Bruno Fernandes agreed. The Reds captain showed his support simply by posting a GIF of Rashford and the Barcelona forward celebrating a goal during their time together at United in the 2022/23 season.
Since joining from Manchester United, Marcus Rashford has flourished for Barcelona, scoring six goals and providing 11 assists in just 21 games. His performance also caught the attention of coach Hansi Flick, who praised him by name after the match.
“I wasn’t surprised by Eintracht’s approach. I told the players to forget the past game (Frankfurt’s 6-0 defeat in Leipzig) because they are a good team,” Flick said.
“Raphinha was everywhere in the first half, maybe not the best, but his attitude was good. In the second half we adjusted some things, but it was important for Marcus to give us width and stretch the line.”
Rashford will be back on the pitch when Barcelona welcome Osasuna to the Camp Nou in La Liga action on Saturday. Flick’s side currently lead La Liga, four points behind Real Madrid, who lost to Celta Vigo last weekend.
Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes and his United teammates are set to face Bournemouth next Monday, hoping to build on their impressive victory over bottom-of-the-table Wolves. Fernandes was the star of the show, scoring two goals and providing one assist as Ruben Amorim’s side defeated West Midlanders 4-1 at Molineux.
