“Yes, of course (I spoke to him),” the Scottish captain admitted. “He was obviously in training yesterday (Monday).
“The decision was taken that he would not travel, and of course a lot has been said about that externally and certainly internally.
“This is a situation that needs to be resolved between Mo and the club at the moment. If you look at our results, you can see how united the dressing room is.
“Mo is a great player. He signed on the same terms as me and I’ve been playing with him for eight-and-a-half years. I almost consider him family. I’ve probably spent more time with him than my own family over the last eight-and-a-half years.
“I’ve been playing with him for a long time and I want to continue playing with him. That’s what I want. Obviously, we’ll see what happens in the next few weeks.”
“First of all, he probably wants the season to be better for the club and for himself. He always puts a lot of pressure on himself to perform.
“Last season he reached a whole new level in terms of sometimes pushing the whole team forward and accomplishing great things.”
Robertson added that Salah looked classy backstage and wished his Liverpool team-mates well for the game against Inter Milan.
“I think we were all below the standard last season, including Mo, and he’ll be the first to admit that,” added the defender.
“And obviously he finds himself out of the team. This is probably a bit of a unique situation for him. It’s obviously something he’s not used to going through.”
“But he was positive yesterday (Monday) in that he wished us all well and sent us on our way.
“There’s no doubt he wants to be involved, but the support for the players was still there. As a teammate, that’s all you can ask for.”
