Liverpool hold ‘secret’ meeting with Jamie Carragher as legend troubles players | Soccer | Sports

It has been revealed that Liverpool have held discussions with Jamie Carragher about club analysis. The Anfield legend delivered eight minutes of scathing criticism on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football following Mohamed Salah’s public attack on manager Arne Slott. After Liverpool’s thrilling 3-3 stalemate at Leeds United, the Egyptian striker stormed into the mixed zone at Elland Road, claiming the club had “thrown him under the bus” and declared he had “nothing to do” with Slott, suggesting this weekend’s home game against Brighton could be his signature song for the Reds.

During the outburst, Salah playfully took a swipe at Carragher while addressing a bewildered journalist. In the aftermath, Salah was left out of Liverpool’s squad that won 1-0 against Inter Milan in the Champions League. Just 24 hours after accusing Salah of “trying to sack him,” Carragher apologized on air and urged Salah to “behave well off the pitch.”

Nevertheless, additional reports suggest that Salah is not the only Liverpool player to take exception to Carragher’s punditry activities. According to the Daily Mail, the club held what it called a “secret meeting” to deal with his reporting on the Liverpool issue.

The discussion reportedly took place before the public spat with Salah, which is fairly standard practice within the industry. The club discussed some of the analysis with Carragher in September.

Despite this, he continues to openly express his opinions without hesitation. His scathing criticism of Salah lasted eight minutes, branding him a “disgrace” and also claiming he was trying to get Slott sacked.

He also claimed that Salah was simply “known as a failure at Chelsea” before joining Liverpool, referring to the 33-year-old’s disappointing spell at Jose Mourinho’s Stamford Bridge, during which he scored just two goals and provided three assists in just 19 appearances between 2013 and 2015.

Carragher apologized live on CBS Sports’ Champions League broadcast, where he regularly appears alongside Thierry Henry, Kate Abboud and Mika Richards, but refused to retract his comments.

The former England international declared: “Mo, I’m sorry if I’ve upset you. I love you as a Liverpool player, but you just need to behave yourself off the pitch.”

Salah has yet to respond to Carragher’s comments, whether it was his harsh criticism on Monday Night Football or his subsequent apology on CBS.

Salah is apparently not the only Reds player fed up with Carragher’s critics. The same Mail report also suggests that many members of Liverpool’s squad are “frustrated” by the 47-year-old’s observations.

Mr Carragher has been contacted for comment. The Sky Sports pundit is one of the UK’s most prominent football commentators, with his opinions reaching large audiences across major platforms.

The former Liverpool player is reportedly happy with his job at Sky Sports and CBS, with sources insisting his views are “honest” and “come from a good place”.

His relationship with current Liverpool players mirrors that of Gary Neville and Paul Scholes with the Manchester United squad, and there are rumors that some United players have refused to work with the club legend.

Salah is not scheduled to depart for the African Cup of Nations until after the match against Brighton, leaving room for Salah and the club to discuss his future. Salah is known to be a target for the Saudi club ahead of the January transfer window, but Liverpool have not ruled out finding a solution for the iconic winger.
