Erling Haaland teases Jamie Carragher in interview with CBS Sports after Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland cheekily accused Jamie Carragher of being a “loose cannon” following the former Liverpool defender’s furious reaction to Mohamed Salah’s tirade at the weekend.
Haaland’s first-half spot-kick at the Santiago Bernabéu gave City a vital three points against Real Madrid. After his win, he appeared on CBS Sports Golazo with Kate Scott, Thierry Henry, Mika Richards and Carragher.
Richards opened the chat by asking how he was feeling, to which the Norwegian replied: “I’m nervous when I meet Jamie Carragher in the studio!” The studio erupted in laughter and Carragher replied: “There’s no need to be nervous, Erling. Don’t be nervous.”

When asked whether he preferred Carragher, who has proven a formidable opponent in the Spanish capital, or Real’s Antonio Rudiger, Haaland quipped: “So I guess I have to say Rudiger right now, because Carragher is a bit of a loose cannon right now.”
After a quick chat about Haaland’s recent appearance on his podcast The Rest Is Football, Carragher invited the City frontman onto his show Stick to Football alongside Roy Keane, who famously clashed with Haaland’s father Alf Inge.
“I think I need to bring in Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane and my dad in this moment,” he replied. The CBS Sports Golasso panel erupted in laughter before the former Liverpool star declared: “That’s the deal!”
Carragher found himself at the center of controversy over Salah this week following last Saturday’s post-match interview. Salah was kept off the bench for three games in a row by manager Arne Slott, leaving his future at Anfield uncertain.
The former Liverpool defender and current pundit for Sky Sports and CBS Sports didn’t mince words when discussing Salah on Monday Night Football.
“I thought his behavior after the match was disgraceful,” Carragher declared. “Some people have painted this as an emotional outburst, but I don’t think that’s the case.
“I think whenever Mo Salah stops in a mixed zone, as he has done four times in eight years at Liverpool, it’s choreographed by him and his agents to do maximum damage and strengthen his position.
“He did that 12 months ago and I called him out on this program for that. He played something that really struck a chord with Liverpool supporters. Liverpool were top of the league and he had scored the winning goal against Southampton.”
“That was the time to put pressure on Liverpool’s ownership. For the rest of the season there will be banners in the crowd saying ‘Give Mo the dough’. He chose to do it this weekend and was expecting a bad result, conceding at the last minute.”
“Liverpool supporters, the manager, the whole club feel like they’re at rock bottom right now, and he’s chosen that moment to bring in a manager and maybe sack him. That’s how I felt.”
Despite his outburst, Carragher expressed regret on Tuesday after Liverpool’s win over Inter. He said: “Mo, I’m sorry if I’ve upset you. I love you as a Liverpool player, but you just need to behave yourself off the pitch.”
