Mo Salah’s future at Liverpool remains up in the air after manager Arne Slott accused the club of “throwing him under the bus”, comments that resulted in his removal from the squad.

Liverpool are not planning a farewell to Mo Salah, despite the volatile superstar hinting that Saturday’s game against Brighton could be his last at the club. Salah, 33, accused Liverpool of “throwing him under the bus” in a fiery interview over the weekend and insisted he now has “nothing to do” with manager Arne Slott.

The Egyptian was then left out of Liverpool’s squad to face Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday, posting a cryptic photo on social media hours before the Reds’ controversial 1-0 win. Their focus is now on Saturday’s home game against Brighton, with Salah revealing he is inviting his mother to Anfield as it could be his last game at Anfield.

Next week, the forward will be jetting off to the African Cup of Nations as Egypt’s captain. Salah will next be available for Liverpool in January, with the transfer window already open.

Several clubs in Saudi Arabia have listed a deal for the 33-year-old and Liverpool are bracing themselves for a formal bid next month, but they hope to protect his value by not letting him part ways this weekend.

This comes as the Telegraph reported that Liverpool believe the sight of Salah bidding farewell to supporters will work against him during negotiations. Anfield bosses do not want to give potential signings the impression that Salah, who is under contract until 2027, is past the point of no return, as Slott suggested on Tuesday.

“Everyone makes mistakes in life, but do players think they made a mistake?” the Liverpool manager asked in a tense post-match conversation with Prime Video sports pundit Clarence Seedorf. “The next question is, should he be in charge or should I be in charge? That’s another question to answer.”

Slott added: “I think tonight should be about a team like this, playing a team like this that’s winning, and a stadium like this. That should be the focus tonight. I totally understand if you go to a press conference on Friday and all the questions are about Mo, but I think these guys deserve to be talked about tonight.”

Speaking at the World Soccer Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Professional League chief executive Omar Mughalber confirmed that Salah was a target. “Mohamed Salah is welcome in the Saudi league, but it is the clubs who are responsible for negotiating with the player. Certainly, Salah is one (of their targets),” Mughalbel explained.

Salah started on the bench in Liverpool’s last three games before the trip to Milan, and it is not yet known whether he will be in the squad for the game against Brighton. He played just 45 minutes in that match, coming on as a substitute at half-time against Sunderland.

Salah said in the aforementioned interview: “I’m going to Anfield to say goodbye to the fans and go to the African Cup of Nations.” “You never know what’s going to happen when you’re there.”
