Marseille forward and former Manchester United goalscorer Mason Greenwood was awarded the man of the match award for Tuesday night’s Champions League game against Union Saint Giroise.
Mason Greenwood has been backed by several former Manchester United colleagues after his recent Champions League heroics with Marseille. The 24-year-old scored twice in Tuesday night’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Union Saint Giroise, earning him Player of the Match honors.
The striker found the back of the net on both sides of the interval, scoring three goals in six games. With this win, Marseille now have nine points from six games and are now 16th in the table.
Get Football News The French newspaper gave Greenwood a score of 8 and noted that “the Englishman looked like his usual self and picked up where he left off against Lille with a little more energy.”

“He found space in the box in the first period and knew when to drive to Christian Burgess and Kevin Mac Allister.
“OM took the lead with his driving run and goal before the end of the first half, and he showed his formidable pace and dribbling ability again in the second half.
“After being played in by (Matt) O’Reilly, the Englishman burst down the right flank, drove inside and finished past Kel Scherpen’s left post.”
His outstanding performance came just days after coach Roberto De Zerbi called for them to raise their level after the defeat to Lille.
“We were passive from start to finish. One shot on target is not enough for a player like Greenwood,” he asserted. “Shooting infrequently is not enough.”
After the match, Greenwood posted a snap of himself clutching his medal on Instagram, without adding any words.
The post sparked reactions from several former United stars, with Anthony Elanga leading the charge by commenting: “Keep it like this!!” Meanwhile, Teden Mengi agreed, saying, “Yes, sir!”
Current Red Devils players Diogo Dalot, Joe Hugill and Ethan Wheatley showed their support by liking the post, along with former United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Greenwood left United on a permanent deal last summer after spending 17 years at Old Trafford, joining French side Marseille.
United admitted they received £26.6m (€31.6m) in sale proceeds and cleverly inserted a sell-on clause that guaranteed a significant portion of his future transfer.
