Manchester United star Amad apologized to teammate Brian Mbeumo after enthusiastically patting the Cameroon international on the head while celebrating the Red Devils’ fourth goal against Wolves. United continued their fine form against Molineux on Monday night, defeating the Black Country outfit 4-1.
United appear to have finally turned the corner under manager Ruben Amorim after an underwhelming start to the season, and are now one point clear of the Premier League’s top four following Monday’s comprehensive win. The Northwest Giants took the lead midway through the first half with a goal from Bruno Fernandes, and the Wolves tied it at the end of the opening period with a goal from Jean Richner Bellegarde. The visitors fought back with goals from Mbeumo and Mount after the interval, before Fernandes added his second of the night from the penalty spot in the second half.
After Fernandes’ penalty, United’s players gathered to celebrate. After patting Mbeumo on the head, Amado was also seen vigorously rubbing the ex-Brentford man’s head with his palm and fingertips.
Amad was then grabbed in the head by teammate Lisandro Martinez, with the winger pushing the defender’s arm away.
After the match, Amad apologized to Mbeumo on Instagram: “Sorry, Brian.” The Ivory Coast player also included a disappointed face emoji.
Joshua Zirkzee responded by shouting, “He’s allowed but I’m not allowed? @mbeumo.” Amad then responded to a text written by the Dutch striker, saying: “Not everyone is an Amad brother.” Mbeumo then posted four angry face emojis and added her own comment.
Amorim will be keen to get involved in the team after his performance against Wolves. And after the clash at Molineux, the Portuguese manager said:
“I think it hurt that we left a little bit behind after the first goal. But in the second half we all felt like we were here to win the game and that was a good feeling.
“We have to be careful about how we concede goals when we are in full control of the game. We came close to scoring the second goal to end the game a little bit. But I was happy with the reaction after half-time.”
“I was trying to explain to the players (at half-time) that we had 45 minutes to get those three points, which are very important in our lives.”
Amorim added: “We always have to build momentum. We need to get to the point where we can win 20 games in a row with this club. The next game is very important and crucial to win.”
